Affordable housing
According to the European Commission, Europe needs to build more than two million homes annually to meet current housing demand. This represents an additional 650,000 homes per year compared with the current construction rate of 1.6 million. Delivering these additional homes would require an estimated €153 billion in annual investment.
The European strategy for housing construction aims to:
- Simplify and digitalise building permit procedures.
- Introduce digital product passports (from 2028) and digital building logbooks.
- Accelerate the development of harmonised standards for innovative construction products, materials and methods.
