Rethinking the Future of Construction

Bouwmeester Maître Architecte (BMA)

The Bouwmeester Maître Architecte (BMA) is the independent public architectural advisory office of the Brussels-Capital Region in Belgium.

Its core mission is to improve the architectural, urban and spatial quality of development across Brussels, working with both public authorities and private developers.

The BMA is not a conventional architecture practice. It functions as a strategic design adviser, facilitator of architectural competitions, and advocate for better urban development.

These are the current strategic priorities:

  • Affordable housing
Supporting the development of accessible, high-quality housing.
  • Adaptive reuse and circularity
Prioritising the transformation of existing buildings and reuse of materials.
  • Climate-responsive public spaces
Improving public environments through climate-conscious design.
  • Private-sector collaboration
Strengthening cooperation with developers and other private stakeholders.
